Horse Barn Notes
All guidesA barn handoff, not a wall of instructions
PawLine editorial · Published October 20, 2026
Lead with what changed and what was last completed. A relief caretaker needs the exception as well as the routine.
What to know
Distinguish your own observation from something reported by another person. Keep feed and medication directions tied to the current approved plan; a general note must not become a treatment order. Urgent concerns require direct contact.
Minnesota Extension advises against sharing buckets, hay bags, grooming tools or tack during travel. Use the same clarity in handoffs: identify equipment and any separation arrangements. A handoff is complete when the next person understands they accepted it, not when someone leaves a checkmark.
